Kelly Jean Sivy & Wall Tent Woodworks

This week's featured artists are Kelly Jean Sivy & Stefan Milkowski of Wall Tent Woodworks!

Kelly is a violin maker and luthier. She recently returned to Fairbanks after spending 4 years apprenticing with a master violinmaker in North Carolina. Kelly handcrafts her instruments using traditional Italian methods, using mostly hand tools.

Come learn about the process of violin making and try your hand at carving blanks or using scrapers to blend curves! There will also be several of Kelly's violins on display.

Stefan is a woodworker who enjoys making everything from furniture to buildings using locally harvested, natural materials. He mostly uses pre-industrial tools and techniques, with the aim of making something that's beautiful, durable and lasting. He'll be demonstrating how to make simple stools (a cross between Shaker and rustic) from single rounds of birch and will be offering opportunities for people to try shaving stool logs and spindles on a shaving horse!

Stefan will have some items for sale including birch stools and other pieces built with traditional techniques, including mortise and tenon joinery and dovetail corners.
